Yep, that's my understanding, so we have no official record of him at all, which means that he may well have died at an early age, as Susan suggested.
Can't see a way forward from there - have checked burials and Monumental Inscriptions with no success.
Let's hope we have more luck with the next question!

Susan, I guess that's a question for me, and I don't have the answer just now.
I have checked the General Record Office UK BMD Indexes, and can see no George Punnett death, or inded birth, that would suit this person.

I have not yet checked if the birth/baptism info. came from Parish Registers, but if so, it may be that that soon after Civil Registration, which started 1837, people may have been a bit lax in registering.
It could also be that after being christened George, he was known by another name. In which case we'll be lucky to trace him! I shall certainly let you know if I find out.

Does anybody have a death date for George Punnett, born 1 MAR 1848? I've looked at the census and I think he must have died before the 1851 census.
